			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>Emotional Freedom Technique Releases Fear of Flying</strong></p>
<p>For some of us, the idea of going on holiday, or travelling, is spoiled by the thought of dealing with overwhelming fear and panic at the thought of getting on an airplane.</p>
<p>Although it can be bunched into an unspecific fear, often, more specific thoughts bring up the fear and are best treated one by one.</p>
<p>For example, going to the airport; saying goodbye; climbing the stairs; anxiety about who is sitting next to you; certain smells and sounds; that moment when the plane stops for take-off and the engines rev; turbulence; landing; a previous and difficult flight; comments you have read or heard relating to danger on a plane; worry about terrorism; persistent thoughts of the plane crashing; a sense of feeling trapped in the plane.</p>
<p>Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), or ‘tapping’ as it is often known has a proven track record of removing the unnecessary emotion around anything, including the fear of flying.</p>
<p>I recently worked with a young woman who was flying to New York a couple of days later. When she visited me, she was terrified at the thought of this flight. Her heart would start beating fast, she sweated, her breathing became shallow and she gave the impression of someone who just wanted to up and run away! Before she took flights, she medicated herself with Valium and Beta Blockers! A heavy combination I think you would agree! After an hour of EFT, she felt relaxed and confident that she could handle the flight. On arriving in New York two days later, she texted me that she had the best flight she ever had. A couple of months later, she attended one of my workshops and since then has been flying happily and easily – without drugs! As she has accepted a job which requires her to travel intercontinental on a regular basis, this letting go of fear of flying has made an enormous impact on her life across the board!</p>

<p><strong>2. </strong>Imagine the scenario, maybe a flight you are planning to take, or may want to take, or imagine a flight you have already taken during which you experienced some fear. Whenever you reach a thought, or visualize something which gives you a crescendo of emotion, just stop, measure on a scale of 1 to 10 how scary that event or thought is and tap it out. After tapping, go back and measure how scary it feels now.</p>
<p><strong>3. </strong>Focus on your thought for a minute or two, then let that thought go and focus on tapping through the following script.</p>

<p><strong>4. </strong>Revisit your original scary thought. On a scale of 1 – 10, how scary is it now? What has changed? Check that you are still measuring the thought you had before you starting tapping. If it is reduced to a 2 or less, move on to the next scary thought. Remember to re-check your 1 – 10 level after a nights sleep as EFT works rather like a computer in that, when you re-programme a computer, it asks you to restart &#8211; re-starting is akin to sleep in a human being.</p>

<p><strong>Abstract</strong></p>
<p>This study examined whether Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), a brief exposure therapy that combines cognitive and somatic elements, had an immediate effect on the reduction of anxiety and behavior associated with specific phobias.  The present study utilized a cross-over design with participants (N=22) randomly assigned to either diaphragmatic breathing or EFT as the first treatment. Study measures included a behavioral approach test, Subjective Units of Distress Scale, and Beck Anxiety Inventory.  EFT significantly reduced phobia-related anxiety and ability to approach the feared stimulus whether presented as an initial treatment or following diaphragmatic breathing. When presented as the initial treatment, the effects of EFT remained through the presentation of the comparison intervention. Further study of EFT for specific phobias is warranted.</p>
<p><strong>Rapid Treatment of PTSD:<br />
Why Psychological Exposure with Acupoint Tapping May Be Effective</strong><br />

<p>Combining brief psychological exposure with the manual stimulation of acupuncture points (acupoints) in the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other emotional conditions is an intervention strategy that integrates established clinical principles with methods derived from healing traditions of Eastern cultures. Two randomized controlled trials and six outcome studies using standardized pre- and post-treatment measures with military veterans, disaster survivors, and other traumatized individuals corroborate anecdotal reports and systematic clinical observation in suggesting that (a) tapping on selected acupoints (b) during imaginal exposure (c) quickly and permanently reduces maladaptive fear responses to traumatic memories and related cues. The approach has been controversial. This is in part because the mechanisms by which stimulating acupoints can contribute to the treatment of serious or longstanding psychological disorders have not been established. Speculating on such mechanisms, the current paper suggests that adding acupoint stimulation to psychological exposure is unusually effective in its speed and power because deactivating signals are sent directly to the amygdala, resulting in reciprocal inhibition and the rapid attenuation of maladaptive fear. This formulation and the preliminary evidence supporting it could, if confirmed, lead to more powerful exposure protocols for treating PTSD.</p>
<p><strong>Single Session EFT for Stress-Related Symptoms After Motor Vehicle Accidents<br />

<p>Motor vehicle accidents (MVA) are a common cause of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Energy psychology (EP) approaches such as EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) are a new form of exposure therapy used to treat PTSD from a variety of different causes. These techniques provide an attractive alternative to more well-established approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy because of their potential for accelerated healing similar to what has been demonstrated with eye movement desensitization and reprocessing. There are only a few reports in the literature of the use of EP for the treatment of PTSD resulting from MVA. This clinical report presents 3 case histories documenting the use of single-session EFT for the treatment of acute psychological trauma immediately after a car accident, urticaria as a component of acute stress disorder 2 weeks after a car accident, and PTSD and whiplash syndrome 11 months after a car accident. These cases are discussed in the context of a review of the current literature on PTSD after MVA and are followed by recommendations for future research.</p>

<p>This paper describes an intervention called Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT). EFT is a brief exposure therapy combining cognitive and somatic elements and focuses on resolving emotional trauma that might underlie a presenting condition. Research indicates that EFT is an effective treatment for anxiety, depression, posttraumatic stress disorder, phobias, and other psychological disorders, as well as certain physical complaints. This article describes the techniques, how EFT is taught in a workshop setting, and provides case examples. The clinical benefits of EFT and future research directions are discussed.</p>

<p>In the nearly three decades since tapping on acupuncture points was introduced as a method psychotherapists could use in the treatment of anxiety disorders and other emotional concerns, more than 30 variations of the approach have emerged. Collectively referred to as energy psychology (EP), reports of unusual speed, range, and durability of clinical outcomes have been provocative. Enthusiasts believe EP to be a major breakthrough while skeptics believe the claims are improbable and certainly have not been substantiated with ad- equate data or explanatory models. Additional controversies exist among EP practitioners. This paper addresses the field’s credibility problems among mental health professionals as well as controversies within EP regarding (a) its most viable explanatory models, (b) its most effective protocols, (c) how the approach interfaces with other forms of clinical practice, (d) the conditions it can treat effectively, (e) what should be done when the method does not seem to work, and (f) how the professional community should respond to the large number of practitioners who do not have mental health credentials.</p>
<p><strong>Energy Psychology Treatment for Posttraumatic Stress in Genocide Survivors in a Rwandan Orphanage:  A Pilot Investigation.<br />

A team of four energy therapy practitioners visited Rwanda in September of 2009 to conduct trauma remediation programs with orphan genocide survivors with complex post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The program consisted of holistic, multi-dimensional rapport-building exercises, followed by an intervention using Thought Field Therapy (TFT). Interventions were performed on three consecutive days. Data were collected using the Child Report of Post traumatic Stress (CROPS) to measure pre- and post-intervention results, using a time-series, repeated measures design. N = 48 orphans at the Remera Mbogo Residential High School Or phanage with clinical PTSD scores completed a pretest. Of these, 34 (71%) completed a post test assessment. They demonstrated an average reduction in symptoms of 18.8% (p &lt; .001). Seven students (21%) dropped below the clinical cutoff point for PTSD, with average score reductions of 53.7% (p &lt; .001). Follow-ups are planned, to determine if participant gains hold over time. Directions for future research arising out of data gathered in this pilot study are discussed.</p>

<p>Using Emotional Freedom Techniques creates Freedom. Freedom from emotional and physical pain; freedom from negative patterns of behaviour; freedom from fears and phobias; freedom from upsetting emotions connected to memories; the freedom to experience what you want to experience.</p>
<p><strong>EFT </strong>is the technique of tapping with the finger tips on points on the upper body. It is a very forgiving technique and, as long as you use 2 finger tips (or more when you can, e.g. collar bone, crown, under arm points) you will always hit the spot! You can use either hand or change during the sequence – whatever is most</p>
<p>comfortable for you.</p>
<p>So, if you believe that Emotional Freedom Techniques is weird alternative stuff and could never work for you, why not try this simple experiment.</p>
<p><strong>Abbreviations and Tapping Points</strong></p>
<p>Take five minutes to acquaint yourself with all the points you will be tapping so you can remember them easily.</p>
<p><strong>PR Point</strong></p>
<p><strong>Side of your hand</strong></p>
<p>This is the side of your hand that is commonly known as the point you use in a karate chop. It is between the bottom of the little finger and the wrist. It is the fatty part of your hand on the opposite side of your thumb.</p>
<p><strong>E</strong>B</p>
<p><strong>Eye brow Point</strong></p>
<p>Situated at the meeting of the eyebrow and the beginning of the nose.</p>
<p><strong>SE</strong></p>
<p><strong>Side of the Eye</strong></p>
<p>Follow your fingers along your eyebrow from the beginning near the nose, to the side of your eye. It is a bony point on the corner of the eye socket.</p>
<p><strong>UE</strong></p>
<p><strong>Underneath the Eye</strong></p>
<p>This point is beneath the eye, again on the edge of the eye socket. It is about a centimeter beneath the pupil.</p>
<p><strong>N</strong>s</p>
<p><strong>Nose</strong></p>
<p>This point is directly beneath the nose and above the upper lip.</p>
<p><strong>Ch</strong></p>
<p><strong>Chin</strong></p>
<p>This point is below the lower lip, in the dip above the chin.</p>

<p><strong>Collar Bone</strong></p>
<p>Find the ‘V’ at the base of your neck, (it is the area where a man may knot his tie). The meridian point is about an inch below and an inch to the side (left or right). It is the point where the clavicle, sternum and first rib meet. Again, this is a very bony point. To tap around this point, use all the fingertips of either left or right hand or tap around both sides of the ‘V’ using both hands.</p>
<p><strong>UA</strong></p>
<p><strong>Under Arm</strong></p>
<p>This point is about 4 inches below the armpit. It is easy to find as the point where a bra strap fits around the torso.</p>
<p><strong>Cr</strong></p>
<p><strong>Crown of the Head</strong></p>
<p>Take a line from the uppermost part of the ears. Where the line would meet is the crown point. Tap around this point using all the left or right hand fingertips.</p>
<p><strong>Script for EFT Cynics</strong></p>
<p>First, measure your cynicism on a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being not cynical at all and 10 being totally cynical that EFT could possibly work.</p>
<p>Now, tap on the points gently (but enough to feel it) with your fingertips, while reading the words aloud.</p>

<p>Even though I am cynical about this EFT tapping stuff – it just doesn’t make sense to me, I completely love and accept myself and I am open to the possibility that it might work, even if I don’t know how.</p>

<p><strong> </strong></p>
<p><strong>What is EFT?</strong></p>
<p>Emotional Freedom Techniques is the technique of tapping with the fingertips on different meridian points on the upper body while focusing on a problem. The purpose is to relieve unnecessary negative emotions thus allowing clarity and logical thinking. Gary Craig, an Engineer, and Performance Coach has brought EFT to the attention of the world.</p>
<p><strong>How does it work? </strong></p>
<p>EFT works because it addresses the energetic disruption that has created the negative emotion. Convention believes that an event causes a negative emotion. A simple example could be – you loose something. Let’s imagine you have lost your passport. What might happen? Most of us loose things at times and we can get angry with ourselves, and, sometimes even at the object we have lost. Using EFT around the negative emotion of anger allows us to let go of the anger allowing clarity. Worked with in this way, as well as removing the negative emotion, EFT may even allow us to remember where we put that passport!</p>
<p><strong>How do I do it?</strong></p>
<p>Let me explain the basic way to use EFT.</p>
<p>EFT involves tapping (which is why it is often referred to simply as ‘tapping’)on certain meridian points on the upper body whilst focusing on the problem or emotion we wish to let go of. It involves speaking out loud a set up phrase which is the negative (problem, emotion) followed by a positive. For example ‘Even though I am angry because I have lost my passport, I accept myself anyway and all of my feelings’. This is repeated 3 times.</p>
<p>This is then followed by the ‘reminder phrase’ and involves tapping the remaining points while reminding yourself, out loud, what you are focusing on and attempting to let go of. For example ‘This anger’ ‘I’ve lost my passport’ ‘All this anger’.</p>
<p>There are many different approaches and techniques involved in EFT. Beginners can have a lot of success, and do. And, like anything, the more practiced, experience and talented the practitioner, the better.</p>
<p><strong>Does EFT work?</strong></p>
<p>Although it is a most bizarre technique, yes it does. There are many thousands of success stories and also examples of scientific research into EFT and the often astounding results this technique can have.</p>
<p>During a recent scientific study into the benefits of EFT in reducing anxiety,</p>
<p>approximately 5,000 patients diagnosed at intake with an anxiety disorder were randomly assigned to an experimental group (tapping) or a control group (Cognitive Behavior Therapy/medication). The results are from Joaquin Andrade, MD and David Feinstein, PhD<strong>. </strong>This was the first large study in the benefits of tapping and the preliminary results are staggering;</p>
<p>63% of the control group (CBT/medication) were judged to have improved.</p>
<p>90% of the experimental group (tapping) were judged to have improved (which is 43% more then the control group).</p>
<p>51% of the control group were judged as being symptom free while 76% of the experimental group were judged as free of symptoms (49% better then the control).</p>
<p><strong>Does it hurt?</strong></p>
<p>No, it doesn’t. Remember you are tapping gently with the fingertips, not hard enough to hurt or bruise but firm enough to feel. Sometimes a point you tap on may feel a little sore. This is due to physical and energetic toxins stored in that point which gentle tapping will release.</p>
<p><strong>What tools or equipment do I need?</strong></p>
<p>Simply your own upper body, two or three fingertips (yours or someone else’s) and a glass of water.</p>
<p>EFT works with the electro magnetic in our bodies. If you are dehydrated, EFT can be compromised. So, make sure you drink a reasonable amount of water.</p>
<p><strong>Why am I tapping on these points?</strong></p>
<p>These are acupuncture points tried and tested over 3 thousand years.</p>
<p><strong>Can I do it by myself?</strong></p>
<p>Yes you can. Even beginners have been reported as having as much as an 80% success rate.</p>
<p><strong>Do I need to say the words out loud?</strong></p>
<p>Yes, it helps. However, sometimes it’s not possible to do that in which case just say it in your head.</p>
<p><strong>Can EFT make my block worse?</strong></p>
<p>Absolutely not! EFT will simply bring to your attention those issues that are creating the block enabling you to release them.</p>
<p><strong>How do I know if EFT has worked?</strong></p>
<p>Before you start tapping, measure how strongly you feel the emotion/pain/fear. On a scale of 1-10, 10 being the<span style="text-decoration: line-through;"> </span>greatest and 1 being nothing, give yourself a number which reflects as accurately as you can, the intensity of the emotion. After tapping at least three rounds, go back and check the emotion again, being certain that you are still working on the original thought that created the upset before you began tapping.</p>
<p>This is the perfect opportunity to let you know that you may or may not feel the effect immediately. Although many people feel the difference immediately, feeling lighter and relaxed, some may notice it after a good night’s sleep or over a few days. Individuals often look different as an EFT shift and this is known as ‘the EFT radiance’. Although you may notice that you have released the emotion, it may be a few days before you notice fully the effect it has on your life.</p>
<p>You will begin to notice how you are not so blocked anymore, how life seems easier somehow, how much lighter everything feels. As more time goes by, you may notice how your old limiting beliefs and patterns of behavior have moved out of your life. Just keep noticing…</p>
<p><strong>Is the relief permanent?</strong></p>
<p>Usually. However, the more specific you can be about the issue, the more successful EFT tends to be. If you find that something you thought you had collapsed is coming back, it is generally because;</p>
<ul>
<li>you have some fine-tuning to do or</li>
<li>another aspect has raised it’s head, or,</li>
<li>you may be working on another issue or emotion.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>What if I don’t feel that I ‘Love and Accept myself’?</strong></p>
<p>For the moment, simply replace those words with “I’m fine’ or I’m OK’ or another positive affirmation.</p>
<p>So go on, give it a go – you never know, it could be the making of you!</p>

<p><strong> </strong></p>
<p>Shame is the Big one, in my opinion the most debilitating emotion. It stops, bluntly, all movement forward in different areas of life. To be shamed is to feel disgrace – in a place of loss of ‘grace’.</p>
<p>So, what is shame? We all recognize the feelings where we cringe internally, maybe blush, cast our eyes down, feel hot or cold, and feel that feeling in the pit of our stomachs.</p>
<p>In order to avoid and hide our shame, we become defensive, stopping people getting too close, we take our feelings out on other people more vulnerable then we are, we attack ourselves through negative self talk –‘I’m a failure’, ‘nobody could love me’, ‘I’m not a good mother/father/boss/employee etc.</p>
<p>Throughout history, shaming has been used as a form of punishment and control. The Jews were forced to wear the ‘yellow badge’ in the middle ages and later in Nazi Germany as a badge of shame. During Victorian times and before, students who misbehaved were forced to sit in a corner wearing the Dunces hat – a badge of shame.</p>
<p>Everyone experiences shame – shame that they were not loved enough, shame that they were bullied at school, shame that they are not attractive enough, shame that they lost their job, shame o.ver this or that, shame they didn’t do this or that. The effect shame has on lives is huge. A woman whose boyfriend had ended the relationship felt shame, which prevented her opening up to another one. A client who was assaulted aged 19, still blamed herself aged 32 and it kept her in abusive relationships. A man whose mother died when he was12, was still full of shame in the mistaken belief it had something to do with him.</p>
<p>Shame – it takes over, it belies common sense and is at the heart of everything abusive thing we do.</p>
<p>Please be aware that with EFT you actually don’t have to go there and feel the emotion. Instead, I would like you to guess, on a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the greatest, how much shame you feel <strong>now</strong> over a shameful event from your past.</p>
<p>Cast your mind back to your area of shame – what happened to elicit your shame? Find the part of the event with the most emotion attached and focus gently on that. Remember to take great care of yourself emotionally and physically when you are working alone.</p>
<p>Now start tapping, speaking with feeling;</p>
<p><strong>Side of hand;</strong></p>

<p>Now take a moment to go back to your 1 to 10 measurement of the shame. What’s different now? How do you feel? Are you still thinking about the same event or part of the event? Give yourself a new measurement and if you still have some remaining shame, go through all the points again just saying ‘remaining shame’ on each one. Do this with all of the events in your life which create some measure of negative emotion and keep going until there is no emotion left or you are bored with it – that is a good sign that it has shifted.</p>
<p>Remember that EFT works a bit like a computer. When you re-programme, it asks you to re-start. Meaning that you may need a good sleep to get the full benefits of EFT!</p>

<p>How often are we almost begging for inspiration? I know I sometimes am!</p>
<p>We feel stuck and maybe the lack of inspiration is the same thing as being stuck. Whether it is, or not, it can be frustrating and limiting – you have a book to finish by a deadline and you have no inspiration for the title or the contents; or you have to create a dress, or a painting, or a graphic design and nothing happens – absolutely nothing at all!</p>
<p>In times gone by, we would have prayed for inspiration, the Greeks believed it came from the gods. Ancient Norse religions claimed inspiration came from Odin; Christianity claims it is a gift of the Holy Spirit.</p>
<p>So, it’s easy to believe inspiration is divine, as it seems such an unconscious happening. It can seem as though we have no control over when, by what, or even whether we are inspired!</p>
<p>What if the only thing between our inspiration and us, is our minds?</p>
<p>What if inspiration can be active rather then passive &#8211; wouldn’t that indicate we have some control over how inspired we feel?</p>
<p>Whether inspiration appears through circumstance (e.g. being in love, through tragedy), geography such as walking in nature), or ‘out of the blue’, it may all be down to our perception of life in the moment.</p>
<p>What books inspire you? – Read them</p>
<p>What music inspires you – listen to it</p>
<p>What nature inspires you? – Visit it, walk in it, swim in it, run in it!</p>
<p>What people inspire you – listen to them, talk to them if you can.</p>

<p>When downloading a new program, your computer will sometimes request you restart your computer. EFT works in a similar way in that the full effects may not be noticed until after sleep.</p>
<p>My request is that you notice how inspired you feel as you wake the morning after tapping through this inspiration script. I suggest you have a pen and paper handy to write down anything you want to remember.</p>

<p>Gratitude/Appreciation is a state of mind &#8211; a choice you make. You can either get bogged down in negatives and focus on struggle, hardship, fear, sacrifice, work, boredom, discipline, duty, insecurity, lack of this or that, how upset you are, how suchabody has made you feel unhappy etc <strong>or </strong>you can change your perspective and focus on the positives. Lying beside the negatives are a whole array of positive qualities which you can choose to include in your reality – qualities like adventure, fun, new beginnings, magic, surprises, a new day, the rain or the sunshine, love, respect, gratitude!</p>
<p>Notice how your energy changes when you read the negatives. Do you feel a dragging in the pit of your stomach? When you read the positives, do you feel a lift, even just a little brighter? Do you lift your head and feel some lightness come over you?</p>
<p>What do you choose to focus on?</p>
<p>What, in your life, do you feel appreciation for?</p>
<p>I understand, know intimately even, how difficult it is to feel gratitude, give thanks, and appreciate some things in your life when the going is tough. For example, it can be difficult to appreciate the money, the work, the family, friends, the love we have, wherever it comes from when we feel a lack of something.</p>
<p>Be aware that whatever you focus on, good or bad, becomes bigger in your life.</p>
<p>So, complaining about your lack may very well lead you to experiencing more lack. Focusing on, and appreciating what is good in your life enables you to create more of what you want. The lesson is simple.</p>
<p><strong>Focus on what you want rather than on what you don’t want.</strong></p>
<p>Being grateful for what you have is a way of directing your intention towards what you desire. As you genuinely direct your intention in such a way, you will notice coincidences, synchronicities, even bursts of happiness telling you that the path of gratitude is the one for you.</p>

<p>&#8216;On the very bright side, Penny, never in peace time history has there been such a gallant effort, by so many people, spending so many billions of dollars with no end in sight, to rapidly clean up your environment.<br />
Never before have numerous heads of state and representatives of a corporation as large as many smaller nations, pledged to work together, sharing expertise and resources to get a job done.</p>
<p>Never before have so many prayer and meditation groups suddenly formed, amongst and in between every religion and those belonging to none, to foster healing of your precious planet.</p>
<p>Never before have finger pointers, conspiracy theorists, and blame mongers been so idle and unnecessary in the face of such a tragedy.</p>
<p>Never before have industry titans across every sea chosen to reexamine their own safety procedures, revisit their own environmental safeguards, and expend their own fortunes to voluntarily reflect upon and demand that they do an even better job from this day forward.</p>
<p>And to top it all off, Penny, your planet has a loving, brilliant consciousness all her own, and of her countless balancing acts, healing herself is one in which she truly shines.</p>
<p>Of this, and so much more, you can be very, very proud.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>Writer&#8217;s Block</strong></p>
<p>As any writer knows, there are times when, for whatever reason, the words and ideas do not flow or cannot be captured.</p>
<p><strong>What makes this happen?</strong></p>
<p>A block or blocks can cause this difficult state. The subconscious is busy, all the time taking everything in and then passing us subliminal messages. Consciously, we may be celebrating at the thought of our successful book, imagining it in the shops, imagining the trappings of our success. Subconsciously, we may be dreading the thought of everyone knowing we have written a book, ‘which is bound to be rubbish’, or fearing the responsibility of success. Past experiences create limiting beliefs and limiting decisions as well as positive and any limiting belief or decision is rooted in past experience.</p>
<p>So, are you going to stay in the darkness of your fears, frustrated with yourself because you can’t stop procrastinating, or for whatever reason it’s just not happening, or are you going to gently lift your face to the sun, open up and move into lightness of being and writing?</p>
<p>I am going to presume that your response to that question is the latter, so let’s get started.</p>
<p><strong>1) Start Noticing and Questioning</strong></p>
<p>Rather then giving yourself a hard time, verbally beating yourself up, feeling like a failure or however you respond when you get ‘stuck’, start to get really curious about what might be stopping you.</p>
<p>There are many reasons for our inability to do something we want to do and writing is just one activity which brings our blocks to the fore. Whether you are writing an autobiography, a self help book, or a murder mystery, you are putting yourself into your writing, and with ‘yourself’ comes all of your past, present and future; your hopes and fears, your automatic thinking and beliefs.</p>
<p>I was recently working with a client who came to see me because she was writing a book, and then stopped – she couldn’t move forwards in anyway. Why? She feared the success of her book because she believed, deep down she would be laughed at, that no publisher would take her seriously. She believed that she was not good enough/not qualified enough to write this book. As you can imagine, there were a lot of associated aspects around those issues.  These have all shifted and she is in the process of writing a book proposal to submit to publishers in a few weeks time. She now writes everyday for about 4 hours, and feels happy about the possible success (or even failure) of her book.</p>
<p><strong>2) Ask yourself; what are the costs and benefits of writing, whether it is a blog, an article, a book or even a letter?</strong></p>
<p>For example;</p>
<p><strong>Benefits:</strong></p>
<p>I get to tell my story, I get to make a difference in people’s lives, I make some money,</p>
<p>I will be known as an expert; ‘I’ll be on TV’, ‘I’ll be recognized’</p>
<p><strong>Costs:</strong></p>
<p>‘No-one will like my book,’ ‘no-one will buy it and I’ll look like an idiot’, I’ll be judged; ‘People will think I am an expert and I’m not’, ‘I’ll have too much money’, ‘I might have to go on TV’, ‘I might be recognized!’</p>
<p><strong>What are your blocks?</strong></p>
<p><strong>Make a list of the Benefits and Costs for you of writing/finishing your project.</strong></p>
<p>Anything that brings up any kind of discomfort (which assessing your costs will do) can be dissolved easily, quickly and permanently using EFT.</p>
<p><strong>3) What might be stopping you?</strong></p>
<p>Lets start to get clear on what might be blocking you. Take a look at the fears below. Which ones resonate as you read through them? Which one/ones jumps out at you so you know instantly that is one of your blocks?</p>
<p><strong>Fear of success </strong></p>
<p>May encompass</p>
<ul>
<li>Fear of being ‘out there’,</li>
<li>Fear of being judged, ‘I’m not good enough’ ‘I’ll be pigeon holed’ ‘I’ll look like a fool’.</li>
<li>Fear of being ‘seen’</li>
<li>Fear of recognition; ‘Success will change me’ ‘I’m happy as I am’ ‘Everything , will change’</li>
<li>Fear of too much responsibility; ‘success will change me’, ‘I won’t have any time to myself’.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Fear of failure </strong></p>
<ul>
<li>This block encompasses all ‘failing’ means to you &#8211; every time you have ever failed.</li>
<li>Being ridiculed, Getting it wrong, Not good enough, Being judged,</li>
<li>Being laughed at.</li>
<li>Fear of a lack of recognition; ‘I’ll loose my independence’</li>
<li><strong>‘</strong>I’ll be nothing’, ‘It’ll prove that I’m nothing’.</li>
</ul>
<p>For some, failure is simply not an option, and they will avoid doing anything just in case they fail.</p>
<p><strong>Fear of change</strong></p>
<p>This block may encompass the fear of what comes next, the loss of constancy, loss of ease, fear of not being able to cope.<strong> </strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Fear of the unknown</li>
<li>‘I might not like it’;</li>
<li>‘It might be harder’</li>
<li>‘It’ll be different and that might not be safe’<strong> </strong></li>
<li>‘I might not be able to cope’</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Fear of ridicule</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Fear of being laughed at,</li>
<li>Fear of getting it wrong,</li>
<li>Fear of not being good enough</li>
</ul>
<p>Having a good idea of what is blocking you, is an excellent start. ‘But how do I get rid of this block?’ I hear you ask.</p>
<p>The block, having been identified, may naturally move of it’s own accord. Or, I recommend Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT). This technique is often called Acupuncture for the Emotions without the Needles. It will shift blocks within minutes or hours as opposed to months and years in Therapy. It is a technique for eliminating both emotional and physical problems. It involves tapping on meridian points (as in acupuncture) on the upper body. EFT is non-invasive, quick, effective and painless. It is easy to learn and almost anyone can have immediate results. I have personally worked with hundreds of people with a whole range of blocks and this stuff works!</p>
<p><strong>‘EFT represents freedom – freedom from years of self doubt, from grief, from anger or negative emotions attached to memories; freedom to earn more money, make cold calls, start that new business, improve your golf score, and lose that weight; freedom from intense fears – phobias, anxiety, panic attacks,  depression, or guilt.</strong></p>
<p><strong>EFT represents the freedom to express love more easily and to walk on this planet with confidence and grace’.</strong></p>

<p>Mary always cut both ends off a leg of lamb before putting it in the oven to roast. One day, her husband, Alan, asked her why she did this as he found this behavior wasteful and irritating.</p>
<p>‘Because my mother did’ she replied</p>
<p>Now, Mary realized that Alan had reach a high level of annoyance over the Sunday roast, to the point where it was growing into a full scale domestic row, so she agreed to phone her mother and ask her why she cut both ends off a leg of lamb…</p>
<p>‘Because my mother did’ said Mary’s mother</p>
<p>So they decided to phone Mary’s Grandmother and ask her</p>
<p>‘Because my oven wasn’t big enough to take a whole leg of lamb, so I cut both ends off’ was the Grandmother’s response.</p>
<p>Mary was stuck in habitual thinking – it is automatic and means that we just do some things without thinking about them.</p>
